There were only three things on my list
of foods I swore I'd never eat... and I've eaten two of them.*
Sea Cucumber -
A tubular
jellyfish creature whose only defense when attacked is to turn itself inside
out, spewing its guts at the attacker. Later, if it managed to disgust its
attacker long enough to roll away, the Sea Cucumber turns itself back around and
grows new guts.
Sea Cucumber is considered a delicacy in Chinese and Japanese cooking.
I had some at a Chinese banquet, sliced into rings, battered and flash fried
like calamari. It doesn't actually have much flavor. I could eat
it again if I had too, though I wouldn't go out of my way to order it.
Escargot -
Snails cooked in olive oil, garlic, and parsley. This dish, though it sounds disgusting, is
actually one of the most delicious foods on the face of the planet. It has
gone from something I swore I'd never eat, to one of my all-time favorite foods.
